A Balham High Road favourite, calm, spacious and open 7am to 6pm every day. Strong on gluten-free and dairy-free options if you are watching what your baby eats too.

Hyde Farm Cafe

A cosy neighbourhood cafe with an Italian deli attached, tucked away on Emmanuel Road. Dog-friendly with indoor and outdoor seating, popular with local families for weekend brunch.

Because sometimes the best thing you can do all day is get outside.

Wandsworth Common

The obvious pick, and rightly so. Wide open grass for picnics, a duck pond, a good cycle path, decent toilets, and a historic cafe in the middle. Split by the railway line, which gives it distinct sections to explore. Common Ground Playground is inside for the little ones.

Tooting Bec Common

A short walk south of central Balham, with wide-open space that stays quieter than Clapham Common at weekends. Great for buggy walks under the tree canopy.

Bertie and Boo Adventure Island

Not a park in the traditional sense, but worth flagging: a dedicated soft play and adventure space on Balham High Road with sessions specifically for babies and toddlers. Rainy day saviour.
