Wandsworth is about as close to home as it gets for V&Me: our Battersea kitchen sits just over a mile away, which makes it one of the very first areas we ever delivered to. Between the riverside at Wandsworth Park, the cafes clustered around Old York Road and a steady stream of young families settling around the Common, it's proper V&Me heartland. A cheerful French-leaning cafe on pedestrianised Old York Road, with outside tables, excellent pastries and a family-friendly buzz. An easy first stop with the pram.

Lockdown Bakehouse

6 Ferrier St, London SW18 1SW

A much-loved bakery near Wandsworth Town station, open from 7am with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The cinnamon buns and sausage rolls have a devoted local following.

Sand Club

138 Garratt Ln, London SW18 4EE

A dedicated sensory play cafe built around a giant indoor sand pit, with bookable sessions for babies and toddlers, simple kids' food and calm, friendly staff. A brilliant rainy-day option.

Wandsworth Common

Ponds, bridges over the railway line, a good cycle path and a historic cafe in the middle. The southern side has the playground and tends to be the more interesting half with little ones in tow.

King George's Park

A long green ribbon along the River Wandle next to Southside shopping centre, with a well-sized children's play area, open lawns and a signposted trail. Handy for combining a play with the weekly shop.

Wandsworth Park

An Edwardian riverside park on the Thames with a flat path looping the whole way round - ideal for buggy laps - plus tennis courts, mini golf and public toilets.
