About this dish

No added salt or sugar

Flavour comes from herbs, spices and the ingredients themselves.

We improved this recipe for autumn. When we first served chicken stroganoff, we paired it with familiar mashed potato to help children get used to the flavour. Now we have swapped the mash for buckwheat to introduce a new texture.

Buckwheat is a nutritious alternative to rice or potato, with fibre, plant protein and minerals. Paired with broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage in a creamy mushroom sauce, it gently challenges little ones while building their confidence with food.

How to choose a texture

Questions parents ask

Can babies eat buckwheat?

Yes. Buckwheat is naturally gluten-free and brings fibre, plant protein and minerals. We cook it soft and offer it smooth, lumpy or bite-sized.

How do I reheat the stroganoff?

Microwave for 60 seconds (baby) or 90 seconds (toddler). For babies under 2, reheat on the hob with a dash of water and the lid on at medium heat for 6 minutes for a softer texture.

Is there a dairy-free stroganoff?

Yes. Our dairy-free butter bean stroganoff has its own page. It uses butter beans instead of chicken and no cream, and it is vegetarian too.
