About this dish

No added salt or sugar

Flavour comes from herbs, spices and the ingredients themselves.

Dahl is one of the easiest ways to bring lentils into your little one's week. We cook green lentils slowly with tomato, mixed peppers, garlic, ginger, cumin and turmeric until soft and comforting, then serve them with fragrant jasmine rice.

The spices are warming rather than hot, so babies meet new flavours without heat. A spoon of soya yoghurt makes the sauce silky without dairy.

How to choose a texture

Questions parents ask

Is dahl good for babies?

Dahl is a gentle way to introduce lentils and mild spices. We cook it until very soft, and it comes smooth, lumpy or bite-sized for babies from 7 months.

How do I reheat the lentil dahl?

Microwave for 60 seconds (baby) or 90 seconds (toddler). For babies under 2, reheat on the hob with a dash of water and the lid on at medium heat for 3 minutes. Rice dishes keep in the fridge for 1 day.

Is the dahl dairy-free?

Yes. We use soya yoghurt instead of dairy, so the dahl is vegetarian, dairy-free and egg-free. It does contain soya.
