About this dish

No added salt or sugar

Flavour comes from herbs, spices and the ingredients themselves.

Schnitzel is one of those dishes we have debated keeping on the menu. It has a firmer texture than slow-cooked meat, and some little ones find it a challenge. We keep it because learning to chew different textures is an important part of developing eating skills.

Crispy panko chicken comes with a sweet Balkan pepper and tomato sauce and roasted potatoes. Every child moves at their own pace, and our reheating tips help make the schnitzel softer for younger toddlers.

How to choose a texture

Questions parents ask

Is chicken schnitzel suitable for toddlers?

Yes, with the right texture. Babies can have it smooth or lumpy, and the bite-sized and toddler versions give older children firmer pieces to practise chewing.

How do I make the schnitzel softer?

Microwave for 60 seconds (baby) or 90 seconds (toddler). For babies under 2, reheat the chicken and potato on the hob with a dash of water, lid on, at medium heat for 3 minutes, and add the sauce for the last minute. Your account has oven instructions for crunchier potatoes.

Is there a vegetarian schnitzel?

Yes. The vegetarian version uses a panko-coated tofu schnitzel with the same Balkan sauce, potato and roasted peppers. Both versions are dairy-free and egg-free.
